Irish Champion Pathfork, a half-brother to leading 2019 Kentucky Derby hope War Of Will, looks to have a very smart sort in his hands in the form of Miss Honey.
The latter, who provided trainer Candice Bass-Robinson with the first of two feature race wins on the day, showed her class when storming home to victory in the Listed Tattersalls Summer Juvenile Stakes on Sun Met day at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Bred by Highlands, 2yo Miss Honey (one of three winners on Saturday for jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe) took her record to two wins, from just three starts, when staying on gamely to post a neck win over Emerald Band, with Brandina back in third.
One of two runners in the 2019 Summer Juvenile Stakes sired by Pathfork, Miss Honey had won impressively on debut before finishing third, to stable mate Vandah’s Spirit, at her only other appearance.
(The Summer Juvenile Stakes has been won by numerous top class performers over the years, including subsequent G1 winners Sparkling Gem, Copper Parade, and multiple Equus Champion Princess Victoria).
Bred on the same Pathfork/Fort Wood cross as G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes hero Red Chesnut Road, Miss Honey was a R90 000 buy from the 2018 April Yearling Sale.
Pathfork, himself winner of the G1 boylesports.com Vincent O’Brien National Stakes at two, is no stranger to siring high class juveniles, with his previous high class juveniles including G1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Mighty High, the above mentioned Red Chesnut Road, Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery winner Precious Pansy and East Cape Champion 2YO Filly Madame Speaker to name but a few!
