Highlands sire off the mark
Highlands stallion Jackson got off the mark with just six runners on the track so far, when his son Bountiful Strength dug deep to win at his second start at Durbanville on Saturday.
The Joey Ramsden-trained Bountiful Strength, bred at Highlands, was fancied in the nine horse 1250m Maiden Plate and he continued to find resolutely under Richard Fourie to beat the more experienced favourite Frozen Tune by a half length in a time of 76,31 secs.
A R700 000 2017 Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale buy by Mayfair Speculators, the winning colt is out of the two-time winner Generous Gabriella (Forest Wildcat).
The handsome and athletic Jackson, a son of Horse Of The Year Dynasty, and also bred by Highlands, was the top lot sold from the 2010 National Two Year Old Sale.
He earned over R2.3 million in a career which saw him bank at 13 of his 17 outings. His six career wins included the Gr1 Investec Cape Derby – where Jackson beat dual Horse Of The Year Variety Club – as well as the Gr1 Daily News 2000 and the Gr1 Champions Cup.

Jackson, who shares his broodmare sire Cozzene with the great sire Pivotal,is from the same family as top-class Gone West sire Sail From Seattle, who is no longer with us.
