The Ridgemont Highlands bred and owned Capitana showed her courage with a hard-fought win in Saturday’s Listed Laisserfaire Stakes (1100m) at Kenilworth.
Trained by Brett Crawford, the consistent five-year-old was well supported to claim her sixth win and eventually started a strongly fancied tote favourite for Saturday’s R85 000 sprint for fillies and mares.
Always up with the pace, under a strong ride from the Ridgemont sponsored Anton Marcus, Capitana was in front a long way from home.
Under a power packed drive from Marcus, the game mare kept going courageously to hold off a determined challenge from runner up Keep The Lights On by half a length. It was another three-parts of a length back to third place finisher Hawker Typhoon.

Capitana, who looks a very attractive future broodmare prospect, claimed the Laisserfaire Stakes of 2021 in a time of 65.44 seconds.
Making her first start since finishing second in July 17th’s G3 Champagne Stakes, Capitana has finished out of the first four just once in 13 outings.
Capitana, victorious in the 2021 Listed Olympic Duel Stakes, is one of 105 stakes winners sired by deceased, multiple champion South African sire Captain Al.
The mare is out of the Galileo mare Exotic –a winning daughter of G1 Irish Oaks runner up Ice Queen and closely related to the Galileo sired G1 winner Hermosa, Hydrangea and The United States.
