Saturday proved another great day for leading Robertson nursery, Ridgemont Highlands. Not only was the farm responsible for breeding Saturday’s Listed Settlers Trophy winner One Way Traffic but their red hot young sire Rafeef provided an eye catching winner at Turffontein, while the Ridgemont Highlands bred pair of Whoa Whoa Whoa and Arctic Drift both won their respective races.
The Justin Snaith trained One Way Traffic provided his late, Ridgemont Highlands based sire Dynasty with his 79th black type winner when he ran out a courageous winner of Saturday’s Listed Settlers Trophy (2000m) at Durbanville racecourse.
Under Richard Fourie, the progressive gelded four-year-old made most of the running in the Settlers Trophy and fought back gamely, after appearing beaten, close home to go away and win by half a length.
The Settlers Trophy of 2021 was a fine result for Ridgemont Highlands, with the farm responsible for breeding not only the winner but also the fast finishing fourth place finisher, Crimson King.
An R800 000 buy from the 2019 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, One Way Traffic races for owners Nick Johnsson and Bjorn Nielsen. The Dynasty gelding has now won his last three races in a row, and four of just nine races in total.
He is out of the three time winning Spectrum mare Careful Hiker, who ran third in the G1 Thekwini Stakes, and who ranks as a half-sister to Equus Champion Cloth Of Cloud and G1 Cape Fillies Guineas heroine Silver Mountain.
Careful Hiker is also a half-sister to the Dynasty sired Listed Aquanaut Handicap winner Wonderous Climber, making One Way Traffic a brother in blood to that very smart performer.

Ridgemont Highlands’ sensational young sire Rafeef, South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2020-2021, got on the winners board on Saturday when his daughter Juliet Tango won a good race at Turffontein.
Now in the care of Michael and Adam Azzie, the three-year-old romped home to break her maiden over 1450m by over two lengths.
Ridden to victory by S’Manga Khumalo, Juliet Tango was making just the third start of her career, with the Rafeef filly having finished fourth in each of her two previous starts.

Ridgemont also bred and own Saturday’s eye catching debut winner Whoa Whoa Whoa, who provided Japanese superstar Maurice with his first South African winner when she won the first race at Durbanville on Saturday.
The three-year-old, who provided trainer Brett Crawford with the first of his three consecutive wins on Saturday, powered home, under Anton Marcus, to land Saturday’s Welcome To Cape Racing Maiden Plate (F&M) (1250m) by a length and a quarter.
The Australian foaled Whoa Whoa Whoa was the first of three Ridgemont Highlands bred winners on Durbanville’s eight race card on Saturday.

The filly and One Way Traffic were followed by the Highlands bred Arctic Drift, who went on to win the last race on the card, the Next Meeting 27 Sept-Durbanville MR 94 Handicap (1600m) for trainer Candice Bass-Robinson, jockey Aldo Domeyer and owners Greenacres Trust and Bryn Ressell.
Now a four time winner, the What A Winter sired Arctic Drift, runner up in last season’s G3 Kuda Variety Club Mile, is out of the G3 Racing Association Handicap winning Sportsworld mare Pacific Charm -who also ranks as the dam of Listed Kenilworth Cup winner Pacific Chestnut.
