Former champion trainer Mike de Kock sent out just one runner at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday but de Kock made it count when his charge Desert Miracle outclassed some promising rivals to win the G2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper (1400m).
A two-year-old daughter of Dynasty, the blue blooded Desert Miracle was all the rage for Saturday’s G2 contest for two-year-old fillies.
Desert Miracle came into the Golden Slipper off a facile win in the Highveld Winter Juvenile Fillies Stakes (Non-Black Type), having finished second in the G2 4Racing SA Fillies Nursery on her penultimate start.
That form was enough to ensure the filly was sent off an unbackable favourite and Desert Miracle lived up to expectations in no uncertain terms.
The Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred filly was given a confident ride by Gavin Lerena, with Lerena looping the field at the top of the straight.

From there, Lerena let his mount pull clear and Desert Miracle cleared away to win as she liked by nearly eight lengths.
Promising Jackson filly Kailene was game but outclassed in second spot, with Hollywoodbound staying on for third spot.
Now a winner of two of her four starts, Desert Miracle claimed the 2021 Golden Slipper in a time of 84.81 seconds.
The 78th stakes winner for Ridgemont Highlands‘ late, top sire, Dynasty, which includes 16 individual G1 winners, Desert Miracle is out of the Oasis Dream sired millionaire and G2 Diadem Stakes winner Welwitschia.
