Daughters of Canford Cliffs, due to stand at Highlands Stud in 2018, and Drakenstein Stud’s successful sire Duke Of Marmalade fared well on Monday’s first session of trading at the 2017 Tattersalls December Mare Sale.
Harlequeen, by five time G1 winner Canford Cliffs, was sold to Katsumi Yoshida for 400,000 guineas, making the four-year-old the joint fourth top lot sold on Monday.
A high-class racemare herself, Harlequeen, consigned by trainer Mick Channon, was a winner at two before training on well to finish third in both the G1 Investec Oaks and G1 Darley Irish Oaks in 2016.
No potential mating plans were mentioned for Harlequeen, the best runner produced by winning Rainbow Quest mare Aurelia.
Duke Of Marmalade, damsire of this season’s high class stakes winning 2yo Chilean, is the sire of Madernia who was knocked down to China Horse Club for 340 000 guineas on Monday.
Madernia, who sold in foal to Dark Angel, was a stakes placed winner of three who was third in the Listed Prix Dahlia-Fonds Europeen de L’Elevage.
Her sire Duke Of Marmalade has an outstanding record as a sire of fillies, with his daughters including the likes of classic winners Simple Verse, Star Of Seville and Sound Of Freedom, and this season’s G1 filly Responsibleforlove.
