Highlands Stud’s super sire Dynasty was represented by his 14th individual G1 winner when his son Liege lifted the delayed 2017 G1 Sansui Summer Cup at Turffontein on Sunday.
Bred by Maine Chance Farms, and trained by Sean Tarry, Liege made amends for his fourth place finish in the Summer Cup 12 months earlier with a fluent two and a quarter length win, under jockey Raymond Danielson, in Sunday’s R2 000 000 feature.
South Africa’s latest equine millionaire, Liege, now a six time winner pushed his earnings to R1 855 000 with his win in the 2000m Summer Cup.
The five-year-old was one of two runners in the 2017 Summer Cup sired by Dynasty.
The 2017 Summer Cup winner is bred on the hugely successful Dynasty/Jallad cross, with this mating having also resulted in the G1 winners It’s My Turn (Cape Derby) and Eyes Wide Open (Premiers Champion Stakes), as well as former G1 Vodacom Durban July runner up Run For It.
Liege is a first Summer Cup winner for Dynasty, whose progeny have already won such major races as the G1 Vodacom Durban July, G1 J&B Met, G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, G1 Paddock Stakes (3 times), G1 Cape Derby (3 times) and G1 Cape Guineas –to name a few.
Dynasty’s Equus Champion, and G1 Thekwini Stakes winner of last season, Lady In Black is one of 16 fillies set to contest Saturday’s G1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas –a race won last year by another Dynasty sired champion, Just Sensual.
Lady In Black is just one of several exceptional 3yos representing Dynasty this season, with the latter’s sophomores including Listed KZN Guineas Trial winner Sir David Baird and unbeaten filly Hashtagyolo. The latter, unbeaten in two outings, recently romped to a an easy win in the KZN Fillies Guineas Trial.
Another son of the great sire, Nassa, is an accepted runner in the G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Cup in December.
